FULL DISCLOSURE: Friendship ko ang produ cum directed by ng #Kabisera so medyo somesortakinda familiar ako sa pinagdaan ng project na itu on its way to #mmff2016, so happy naman ako at nakapasok sila. In terms of effort well deserve ang inclusion. In terms of quality, malalaman natin sa Dec 25. Basta klaro lang  na witchikels ako receive ng paymanent of any form ha o pananawag ng utang na loob okies? Okies. Charot.

Kung naiba-ibang taon ito ng MMFF, Kabisera will be automatically be tagged as the entry na pang-award, in contrast sa ibang entry  na pangkulimbat ng milyones of datung otherwise known as pelikulang pambata, entries na horror, romcom, at yung nag-iisang entry na waley sa award waley pa sa kita. There is alway one in every MMFF pansinin niyo.

So ano ba ang Kabisera? Family drama ba ito na may social relevance? Social commentary ba ito set in a familial context? Hindi ko alam.  Basta may family dinner scene tapos mamaya may police raid at lawyer-lawyer scenes na. Saka intense bulong-bulong acting.

Though this is one of the independently-produced films among the entries, Kabisera has the feel of a mainstream pinoy family drama rather than the stereotypical indie film. Hindi siya poverty porn, wala akong nakitang edgy-edgy hihiluhin ko kayo camera work sa trailer, wala rin akong naramdaman na may mindfuck storytwist sa dulo. Straight-forward storytelling siya.

At kung nagdududa pa kayo sa kalibre ng acting to be expected beyond the face of La Aunor sa poster, let the trailer tell you about it by including the individual acting awards na napanalunan ng supporting casts. Like wow, may best actor awardee sa Die Beautiful? Kami rin merong awardee – SIYAM! Ganeeerrrrrn?! Charot lang.

Pero napansin ko, while most movies equate dramatic acting with high decible histrionics,  tanging si Ricky Davao lang ang nakita kong sumigaw sa trailer. The rest spoke in intense whispers. Notice yung delivery ni Perla Bautista sa trailer. Pak.

Whether or not humamig ng parangal ang Kabisera sa awards night, it deserves a slot sa listahan ng papanoorin niyo during the festival for the message it sends to the viewing masses as well as to the industry na mukhang winatawatak ng MMFF controversy na ito….”sa kabila ng mga nangyari, sama-sama pa rin tayo, iisang pamilya.”

I say watch it, at walang kinalaman kung friend ko ang produ.
