Though pang-apat ang #kabisera sa mga pinanood ko sa #mmff2016, I decided to defer doing  a kneejerk review to a later date kasi it was struggling na nga, and  this review would most likely not help. The movie is quite timely, tackling the Extra Judicial Killing issue at its hottest. Had it been completed on sked and shown last year as it was intended, it probably would have been considered dangerous, ground-breaking, and ahead of its time.

New Eve Celebration. Happy new year!!!! Happy new year!!! Happy New Year!!!

Unli-hyper-energy Happy new year toast ‘teh? Di ba pwedeng isa lang?

That was followed by an establishing scene ng mga characters sa breakfast table. As in sa isang eksena ilatag natin, verbally, ang various familial interactions, dreams, aspirations and baggages nina mudra Nora Aunor at small fry politician husband Ricky Davao with their 5 children.

5 children? Bakit 5? Di ba pwedeng 4 lang  or three?

RJ Agustin, aba dapat may moment rin and what a moment because it was THAT moment that  goaded Nora to take on the mantle of sitting at the family Kabisera….

Perla Bautista fared better because she IS Perla Baustista. And Menggie Cobarrubias fared better because everything is better with Menggie Cobarrubias.

JC de Vera, as the  brash overly happy-go-lucky son did better and actually had chemistry with Ate Guy in their scenes. Parang minamani niya lang yung over-serious script which actually serve him well at natukoy niya kung saan kailangang umakting. At tulad ni Nora Aunor at Ricky Davao, all three tried to uplift the script from the morose lusak it was handusay-ed. Handusay-ed daw o!

And of course there was the extended Nora tuhog close up shot designed to give her an acting award moment dahil maganda kung may moment, masaya pag may moment, dapat may moment si Ate Guy. Ang shot, walang bitawan mula sa pagtatangka niyang lumabas sa pagkakakulong sa kwarto, narinig ang killing putok, to magically makalabas siya ng kwarto, even more magically lampasan ang mga hitmen na para siyang hangin na dumaan, makita niya ang bangkay, at kanlungin ang ulo ng Ricky Davao at lumuha in a Pieta pose, in the rain. Also, the only time it rained sa buong movie.

Bukod sa EJK, Tapos may hula kembot pa, unwanted pregnancy chorva, shifting courses and feeling of inadequacity kember. Tapos may patama pa sa human rights keme, may courtroom eklavu, social injustice chovaloo. At may Victor Neri pa na may or may not have kinalaman sa hula. Hungdaming threads!

Maganda naman may gustong sabihin yung movie tungkol sa societal ills sa macro and how it affects the pinoy family sa micro level. Pero hindi natahi nang seamless at ang lumabas ay hodgepodge of issues na na graze lang ang surface at acting moments that may or may not been deserved.
